this does NOT alievate ALL the problems....what about the people that don't have access to XBOX Live PERIOD? and the people that don't have the online capabilities (a Windows XP Operating System) to get this "patch" even if it is made? think about those people...LIKE ME. goddamnit all.

the other issue straight off the top is:

Why Would People Be Still Playing The Game If They Can't Read The Text For 30 Goddamn Days?
If i was the typical gamer (which i usually am) i would (and may) end up throwing the game aside after being too frustrated for even a extra WEEK, never mind 30 days!

so all in all, I have to say this is a improvement, but not a satisfying one in my case, as it does nothing for me being i cannot access XBOX Live, and as i stated before, this just signals that major gaming companies (and the general companies in the world) are starting to assume we all have hundreds of dollars to upgrade everything in our lifestyles (from HDTV's to fancy computers that do everything) with no further care about how angry we will become. It may be the half to complete downfall of many Industries, if not the gaming industry eventually.
It makes me sad that I have to shell out over a 1000 dollars a year (it seems) to afford video games period, but to have to shell out at the bare minimum 1000 dollars for a new computer, 1500 for a new tv, and another 300 dollars for mischellous garbage, just to play my favourite games to the best experience? that seems unjustified in my opinion.

hate me all you like, as far as i see it, i am right in this issue, many will disagree as they have the yearly resources available to them, but some are less fortunate and can't meet this demands of the ever growing consumerism EXPECTATIONS in this rapidly moving world.

Seriously, just shut up. You're one of the people who give Rare fans a bad name with your constant over-the-top dramatisation.
Videogames are a luxury entertainment item - you do not "have" to shell out any amount of money for them.

I know you are upset about the situation but Rare screwed up, and thankfully there is now an option to fix it. It's unfortunate for you that you don't have LIVE... but there are a few other options for you. Any friends with LIVE who could download the patch for you? Maybe a magazine disk will come with the patch on it. Unless your computer is on dialup or no internet whatsoever, I wonder why you can't connect?

Stop responding on pure emotion. What did you expect Rare to do - recall all the discs and fix it?

The option to burn a dashboard update to a DVD or CD and install it from there? Well I don't know if that works with game updates for one... I think it's just for dash updates. Having said that, in terms of updating the dashboard through this method, I see no reason why you need a Windows to perform this task... Sure Microsoft wants you to use their OS, but it's just as easy to do in Mac OS X...

Yes, Midnight Slade, that is what i was going on and on about in the beginning, for Rare to make that a option for the game's patches.

and to Fishonacarpet, i do not know you, but i have been a loyal rare fanboy since just before the n64 days, and if you think i'm unjust in saying that Rare screwed up bigtime for the mass market, and say it so ugly-wise too, then w/e, believe what you want to believe, but until recently i had no clue at all that what i was missing this entire time is A *MODEM* connection instead of a wireless connection, i thought i  needed a XP OS, and would have no choices when it came to getting the patch(es), so yes, i was quite angry and aggressive.

As well, i did not expect Rare to do anything except make the patch availible to the masses, and promptly, they have now half completed that expectation (and go ahead, call me more names and whine about how I'm "anti-Rare", it'll give me a good chuckle, as i don't give a rat's behind what you think, and you don't have to care what i think either!) though i am still upset that i have to wait 30 days for the patch, but thanks Rare for at least trying to make up for the mass hysteria (search google for "Banjo Kazooie Nuts And Bolts SDTV Text" and see the mass hysteria for yourself!) that happened when you originally said it would be unlikely.

and that's all I'm gonna say, as all I am doing is responding to abuse towards me, and sticking up for my opinions, I certainly hope that is still allowed in this crazy messed up world we seem to live in now.

There has been a slew of terrible reporting regarding this sdtv issue recently.  Granted it's Rare's error that the text is small, the most reports on this issue have quoted second hand sources like blogs.  There have been publications like GamePro printing information saying that the small text issue would not be fixed (this misinformed news brief can be contributed to Blake Snow.)

In any news article/brief, the reporter is supposed to confirm information first hand from the source and not reference a publication or resource that's secondary to their own publication. This is one of the first things you learn as an ethical and reliable reporter.

Granted this information came after an initial post where George K. said the issue may not be fixed and he didn't want to make any promises that it would be fixed. He said the issue would stand at the game's release, but the reporting and information in this article would make you believe that it won't be fixed at all.

This type of bad reporting could be considered libel, for providing misleading facts from a secondary source that would negatively impact the reputation of Rare by appealing to a reader's knee jerk impulses to act on issues they would see deal-breaking for a purchase (i.e. reader's who have standard definition tv's and believe they will not be able to read the text).

I expect Blake Snow to issue a retraction on this news brief for its inaccuracies and flawed reporting standards and if this isn't the case I hope Rare or Microsoft pursue legal action against GamePro and Snow for his destructive reporting.  

First off, Hello all.  This is my first post here.

Second, I personally don't consider the small dialog text or the fact that it flashes by to fast for my laborious reading pace in the scripted parts to be a "deal-breaker."  I have dyslexia and half the time I need someone read me the subtitles before they vanish from the screen, so I'm kinda used to it by now.

I'm very glad that Rare is fixing the text size.  I'll at least have a fighting chance to keep up that way.  I would much appreciate it if the dialog would stop and wait for player approval before continuing so I wouldn't have to play through the scenes 4 or 5 times and still not get half of what was said.

In reply to Voshra, it is fairly obvious by the fact that you are posting a comment here that you have some form of Internet access.  There are several possible solutions to your problem depending on exactly how you access the Internet.  You say you're using a "wireless connection" but that isn't very descriptive considering how you could be using an iPhone to post here.

Assuming you're not using an iPhone here are some possibilities.
WiFi, either public or private:
You could buy the $100 wireless adaptor for Xbox which will work on 802.11a,b, or g.  Wireless support is built into the Xbox 360 and is pretty simple to setup.

WirelessBroadband, using a USB adaptor provided by your cell company:
 Not so simple as the first option but here goes.  You can use your computer, whatever it may be, as a bridge between the wirelessbroadband card and your Xbox so long as the computer has an ethernet port.  This is a pretty technical task though, so I won't get into it here, I've already rattled on to long for a blog comment.
 
Of course there is always the option of takeing your Xbox to a friend or family member's house who has a wired network and borrowing their connection for a minute or two.

Welli got a 28'' inch HD TV from Samsung!
And when i played the demo i could not read the fricking text, i have got a big living room and the tv is not infront of my nose, but somewhat away from my cough!
So i hope this will also fix my problem, cause i hate for me to sit on the ground infront of the tv :P

@Voshra, if you got internet connection at home you can get Xbox Live for free!
Just plug in a internet cable into your console and you can update your game.
A silver account is always free, and you already got a silver account otherwise you cannot play any games, so once a internet cable is inserted you are able to patch your game!
If you dont got any internet at home, well then yeah its a problem for you.
But i doubt there are much people that still dont have internet, especially when your a gamer!

what kind of fix? a patch?  and what is this 'fix' gooing to look like? How is the font gooing to look?  More info please rare.

Addendum to my previous comment: My fiancee reads 2 to 3 times faster than I do and she is having trouble keeping up.

Please, please, please include an option to make every line of text pause so people like me aren't missing %75 of the dialog.

I find that the text size and speed is fine you me. I can read it perfectly, but I am happy to see Rare making a patch for others.

i have a shoddy little 13" tv and i cant make out anything that anyone says in the game -_- which is rather unfortunate because i was so looking forward to playing it,and can't because i don't have much of an idea as to where i'm supposed to go,or what i'm supposed to be doing...

How many days now, till this update?

i just got the game today, im having a lot of fun with it so far. being able to read the dialog will make it that much more enjoyable :}

it would be nice if the dialog could be slowed down or you had to press the A button to move on from one dialog box to the next.

Voshra - you will be better equipped to live in this crazy world if you slow down and process information before exploding and allowing your emotions to get the better of you.

In other words - chill - and maybe you won't have to be so self-defensive anymore.

i finally broke down & got another tv but untill i get a hdmi to dvi adapter probably there will still be the same issue with the game when using composite video

Geez, people. I can read it just fi-well, it's nearly illegible, but at least I can read everythi- well, not numbers, but still!

I have now beaten the original Banjo-Kazooie 100%. Any idea how much longer the update will take? I have not played Nuts and Bolts on my SD TV yet because I want to be able to read whats going on.

Come on! Why did you do you have to release it so much latter after the release! I'm gonna be done with the game by the time it gets the update. Still, good for the people that didn't get when it was released.

Btw i just bought it at game stop brand new because the used version was only 10 dollars cheaper and id rather pay for the new package without risk of getting a messed up copy. Thank god i got gears of war 2 to play until then, thanks Rare for fixing the problem.

i beat the original banjo-kazooie 3 DAYS after i got this game and found out that i could not play it because i cant understand a "word" anybody is saying.  
i have already beat the old games like a thousand times on my N64 and would like to try the new one.

Wait.. when was this blog posted? I just got the game and there was a title update waiting for me when I played for the first time.

Was that title update only to fix bugs or is this text fix update still on its way?

@ Neo Jettero & Catalyst691:We're still working on the text fix title update. It won't take much longer and will definitely be up before the holiday season's festivities well and truly kick in. Please bear with me whilst I look into getting the official word and I'll post an update here as soon as I hear back.

WOW! I didn't really think that the big guys at Rare read and posted here. Thanks George_K! I'm looking forward to the update. I love the game and can't believe that you guys let it go for less than $40 (sorry don't know the pound conversion). Rare has always had the best humor in their games. Again, thanks. This is great. I bought the game a while back but have been unable to play it because I have no idea what's going on.

I have been checking the rare site every 3 hours! Its been 30 days has it not? i dont want to touch this game until that update comes out! Banjo games have a great sense of humor and has alot of text.... And banjo tooie was my favorite game... i know this game probaly no where near tooie... But its probaly still a good game.

I have been waiting for over a month now for an update! I really want to play this game and is getting really fustrating! What's hapening with this update?????????

Hello, I'm not one to bug or pester developers or publishers, however I really feel strongly about this issue.  I'm a huge Rare fan and based on this page went out on a limb and bought the game.  I've played a ton of titles on my TV and this is one of the few games that I can't play.  I honestly feel like you all put yourselves on the ledge when announcing a "month's time."  Now we are talking about "by the holidays get into swing." At this point, and yes the holiday are coming up, I'd at least expect someone, anyone to come here and properly address the supporters of this game.  I'd even take someone telling me it might not happen, but I really feel as if this issue has been blown off when so many are waiting.

Viva, Perfect Dark, both games I've bought and enjoy didn't have this issue.  I don't believe in threatening to not buy a product (espically when I enjoy them so), but this is leaving a bad taste with me.

Oh Rare.  How much further will you dig your hole.  Not only did you fail to do what any professional software company should do and test your game on more than one TV, you made promises you couldn't keep.  Don't say 30 days when it isn't feasible.  Now instead of a bunch of angry consumers, you have a bunch of impatient, betrayed, angry consumers.  Is there even a real patch or was that just something you came up with to shut up us annoying SDTV owners?  Your failure to give us any actual information leads me to believe that no one is working on any sort of patch.  I will give you til Christmas before I rid myself of this worthless, plastic disc.  Not that you really care though, since you already got your money for it.  And of course that's all that matters to you.  Quality is for people with time on their hands.

You used to be my favorite gaming company.  How far we have fallen.

Rare, please keep us updated about the progress of the patch. I come and check this forum everyday hoping that today is the day, and all I am met by is disappointment. I have been a big fan of Rare since the N64 days, but now I honestly feel a bit betrayed. I bought the game when I saw this forum posted promising a patch, but now I wonder if it wasn't just a plot to get those with SDTVs to buy the game anyway. When asked my opinion of the game and if it is worth the purchase I have had to tell my friends the truth; the way it is now it is not worth it. I will continue to tell anyone who asks the same thing at least until we have a fix. It is not fun to run around without the foggiest idea of why. I still continue to have hope that Rare can redeem themselves, and I am grateful that the effort is being made in the first place. But learn this: A promise broken is an opportunity lost.

Just fired up N&B, and it looks like the patch is up and running.  I just got an update, and I have a 27" SDTV and the text is MUCH easier to read now...

I've only played a little of this game this morning, but I have to say, this game is fun as all get out.  Now that I can read the text, I can focus on playing the game and not getting fustrated.  I'm already looking at magazines and in my books for ideas on vehicles to make.  I fear for my time after I finally get a chance to see Dark Knight later this week and then sit down to play this game.  I can see myself playing to get more parts to create a wide range of things.

But enough on that, I came in to say thanks for caring about the fans and giving us this much needed patch.  I'd be very upset to have missed this game and I can see this game giving me hours of playtime.

The n+b patch works perfectly but since i already had an lcd tv it didn't change the gaming much. But i,m glad the sdtv gamers get what they deserve.
